Since its founding in 1996 by former FBI Special Agents Rick Smith and Bill Buchanan, Cannon Street has provided investigative services to law firms, corporations and individuals in litigation support, business intelligence, fraud and wide variety of workplace investigations.

Cannon Street also offers specialized expertise in surveillance, electronic countermeasures, computer crimes, security surveys, technical installations and polygraph and document examinations.

Cannon Street utilizes a cadre of investigative professionals, in most part within a network of former FBI agents worldwide to access relevant information for our clients.

In addition to the quality of field investigation, Cannon Street has in-house research capabilities with access to the most sophisticated proprietary databases.

RICHARD W. "RICK" SMITH

Principal

Rick Smith entered on duty as a Special Agent with the FBI in November of 1970. He was initially assigned to Seattle, Washington before being transferred to San Francisco in 1972. For 20 years, he was involved with Soviet counterintelligence and investigated both domestic and international espionage cases.

From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Smith worked as Media Representative for the San Francisco Division of the FBI. He was responsible for handling all FBI matters, including the Polly Klaas kidnapping case and the UNABOM investigation. In 1995, he was promoted to Supervisor of the Russian Counterintelligence Squad.

Mr. Smith also served for three years in the U.S. Army, including one year in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant and Field Advisor to the South Vietnamese.

Rick Smith is a consultant to Bay Area media on wide variety of law enforcement, intelligence and terrorist matters and frequently appears on Bay Area television offering perspective on high profile cases. He is a member of The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
